Sensitive skin is often sensitised skin. There is a difference, and it matters.
Sensitivity
Five years ago, sensitivity was not a standalone category at JV. Now it's the most common condition first-time clients walk in with, and the reason isn't a mystery. There's more skincare out there than ever, most of it very good at convincing you that you need it.
Usually, it comes down to one of two things. Either the skin is getting too much, from over-exfoliating or the strongest vitamin A the internet's black market will sell you (we wish we were joking), or it's getting too little, running on a routine that was never really supporting it.
Most of the time, sensitivity is your skin's way of telling you something's off, rather than a permanent state. Some skin, on the other hand, is simply reactive by nature and needs steady, ongoing care that keeps it calm without setting it off again. Either way, getting a professional involved sooner rather than later tends to sort things out faster, so you can move on to whatever you came in to work on.
It flares for all sorts of reasons: a change of season, an illness, even a new product, and often it builds slowly in the background before you clock it. We also help with rashes, irritations and other conditions that fall under this umbrella, on our own or alongside your GP or dermatologist.
Whatever it looks like, the aim is the same. Calm and stable first, then progress.
