TCA (trichloroacetic acid) is a medium-depth chemical peel that works by removing the upper layers of skin to help improve the appearance of texture, discolouration, and signs of ageing. By triggering your skin’s natural repair process, it encourages fresh, smoother skin to come through in the days following your treatment.
TCA Peels may be suitable for clients looking to address the appearance of sun damage, textural changes, mild acne scarring, and visible signs of ageing. With different strengths available, this treatment can be tailored to suit a range of skin types and concerns.
TCA Peels may not be suitable if any of the following apply:
Pregnancy.
Use of oral isotretinoin.
Immune-compromised conditions (e.g. HIV, lupus, poorly managed diabetes).
Active cold sores, skin cancer, infections, open wounds, or burns.
Melasma (Forte strength only).
Inability to tolerate discomfort or commit to downtime
Once applied to the skin, TCA creates a controlled reaction that causes the outermost layers of the skin to shed. This triggers your skin’s natural wound-healing response, a process that helps renew the skin’s surface and improve visible concerns, such as rough texture, pigmentation, and fine lines.
You’ll likely feel a hot, stinging or burning sensation while the peel is on the skin. This can be intense in some areas, but your clinician will work in sections and monitor your response throughout the treatment to keep it as manageable as possible.
To ensure the best possible outcome from your TCA Peel, please follow the guidelines below:
If you are prone to cold sores, consider using an over-the-counter antiviral prophylactic.
Discontinue topical Vitamin A products for up to two weeks before your appointment
For the first five days post-treatment, or until all post-treatment skin reactions have fully settled, it’s important to support your skin with the following care:
Use only a gentle cleanser morning and night.
Apply a moisturiser or your prescribed post-treatment product as directed.
Avoid direct sun exposure. When outdoors, wear a broad-brimmed hat and apply (and reapply) SPF 50 sunscreen throughout the day.
Refrain from vigorous exercise, saunas, steam rooms, or any heat-based wellness treatments for at least 48 hours.
Do not pick or prematurely remove flaking skin, as this can lead to post-inflammatory pigmentation.
Following these guidelines will help optimise your results and support a smooth recovery
Downtime typically lasts five to seven days, depending on the treatment area. During this time, you may experience:
Facial redness and heat for a few hours after treatment
Tightness or dryness until the skin begins to peel (usually around day two).
Moderate to heavy peeling that may continue for up to ten days
Temporary darkening of pigmentation as it rises to the surface and sheds.
Your clinician will follow up after your first session, and we encourage you to contact the clinic if you experience any responses that are outside of the expected range..
Results, downtime and treatment response will vary from person to person.
We recommend two to three treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart, followed by a review. Your clinician will assess your skin and adjust the plan based on your individual goals and response to treatment.

Ongoing treatments may be recommended every six to twelve months, depending on your concerns. Your clinician may suggest alternate or complementary treatments as part of a long-term maintenance plan.
In addition to not proceeding with a TCA Peel, alternatives may include other chemical peels, CO2 laser, Fraxel, Moxi, Pico Genesis FX, microneedling, or topical and oral therapies. Your clinician will guide you toward the option best aligned with your goals and what this procedure can reasonably achieve.
